Scotch Ale beer
Scotch ale is a style that was born in Scotland, but it is Belgium that made the style popular. Generally, they have a lot of body and are quite sweet. The balance between sugar and alcohol is essential to prevent the beer from tasting too much alcohol.
Most often the beer is matured in barrels (from Wiskey but not only), which gives it a woody and spicy side. The aftertastes are caramel, maple syrup, molasses, etc.
There are many lighter, less sweet Scotch ales; they are called Scottish Ale.
