Porter beer

Porters are a style of black beer originating in England and particularly in the city of London where they were very popular with the city's dockers.

Porters are often confused with stouts because both are black and often have flavors of coffee, chocolate or toast.

The main difference between porters and stouts is the alcohol content and thickness in the mouth. Porters are clearly easier to drink.

There are even sub-styles such as the Baltic Porter.

We talked earlier about the chocolate, coffee and toast flavors found in Porter style beers. These flavors come from the high degree of roasting the grains used during brewing. A process similar to roasting coffee or cocoa beans. The taste is common to the components resulting from roasting but they are assimilated to these foods because they are more common. It is also the degree of roasting that gives the color of the beer, although in the majority of porter beers, 90% of the malt used is pale ale malt.
