                      Westmalle Tripel is a light, golden-yellow Trappist beer that undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle. It is a complex beer with a fruity aroma and a nice nuanced smell of hops. It is soft and creamy on the palate, with a bitter touch carried by the fruity aroma.

                      Brewery Westmalle

                      Westmalle Abbey was founded when the Cistercian monks, driven out of France by the French Revolution, arrived in Antwerp.

                      The authorities of the time allowed them to settle in a plain to the east of the city. It was in Westmalle that the ten monks settled in the farm of 'Nooit Rust' (never rest in Dutch). A nod to what corresponds to the working life of a Trappist monk.

                      The order almost disappeared under the domination of the crown of Orange, but the monks managed to make themselves useful by building a hotel and offering other services to the population.

                      Today it is this abbey that manages the 'Trappist' label and they have contributed to the construction of other Trappist breweries such as that of Scourmont in Chimay.
