Brewery Dochter van de Korenaar
Dochter van de Korenaar is a small first generation family brewery born in the Belgian enclave in the Netherlands, Baarle-Hertog.
If you look closely at a map of Belgium, you will find that there are some bread crumbs that belong to Belgium in Dutch territory.
There is also the Trappist abbey ‘La Trappe’ (which is therefore not Dutch, contrary to what many claim).
The quality of Dochter van de Korenaar beers is well established. Beyond the fact that they are good, they are continually improving because he constantly changes the recipes slightly.
The second interesting point is the work of the yeast. This is the strong point of brewer Ronald. He spends as much time mixing his yeasts as he does brewing. So be careful when you serve one of his beers, not to pour the bottom which is loaded with the precious bacteria.
The last point is that he will never release a beer he is disappointed in, he will simply throw it at the sterfput. No question of a hazardous beer leaving the brewery with the name Dochter van de Korenaar on it.
He does not run his company, but he lives it, he once told me. That's why his employees are his family. His wife and three children often pitch in as much as possible. Certainly, the products cost a little more than the average but the work provided is colossal. He brews taking his time, which has become very rare in our busy world.
