Brewery Corsendonk
The history of Corsendonk beers is linked to that of Corsendonk Abbey, which was founded in 1398.
At the time, a brewing activity was already operational. Indeed the remains of a mill, a malting room and a brewing room have been discovered in the ruins. We also discovered an ingenious system of pulleys to convey the water to the brewing room.
But in 1784, the brewery was closed by Emperor Joseph II of Austria and over time everyone believed that the beer named after the abbey would never be made again.
And it was in 1982 that the Corsendonk reappeared. It obtains the label of 'abbey beer' and it is the Bocq brewery in Namur that is responsible for making it. The beer was a great success since in less than ten years it increased its production tenfold.
The family behind the revival of Corsendonk beers recently took over the reins of the Bocq brewery, which the owners wanted to sell.
