Brewery Chimay
Chimay beers are produced by Scourmont Abbey which was built in 1850 by a group of monks sent from Westmalle Abbey with the aim of establishing a Cistercian monastery in the region.
This Order provides for a simple life around prayer and manual labor to be able to support itself and those in need.
Around the abbey are a brewery, a farm, fields and a cheese dairy. The first beer was Chimay Rouge, not Chimay Bleu as many believe.
Today the Notre-Dame Abbey is still there, it can even be visited. The brewery and the cheese dairy as well as many of the buildings that compose it are accessible. The site is full of history and worth the detour.
For several years, the beers of Chimay have been sponsoring many film-related festivals. This is the perfect opportunity to taste Chimay on the run with a piece of cheese.
