Brewery Halve Maan

The brewery ‘De Halve Maan’ (half moon in Dutch) passed through several owners before the First World War. But it was really only at the end of the second war that the brewery experienced its greatest boom.

Strongly influenced by the American model at the liberation, the De Halve Maan brewery began to make lemonades and sodas. The modernization of the facilities will also take place at this time with a new brewhouse. Beer production increases accordingly.

Located in a narrow street in the center of Bruges, the De Halve Maan brewery has to move very quickly. They acquire a building not far from there and still located in the historic heart of the city. They are still there today.

In the 1980s, the heiress decided to renovate part of the buildings to install a restaurant, a tasting room and a museum dedicated to the history of the city and the brewery in particular. It was a huge success, with the city of Bruges attracting millions of visitors each year.

In 2010, the brewery produced too much for the cramped place where it was located and solutions such as a move were considered. But with the will and the support of the city, the brewery was able to stay in the same place thanks to the construction in 2016 of a 'beer pipeline' which is built from the brewery to the outside of the city where a bottling unit and guardhouse was built. This is a first that made a lot of noise to the other side of the planet where some people thought that the inhabitants had beer from there at the taps of the houses.
